WHAT WE TREAT

Our specialty divisions of medical and haemato-oncology, radiation oncology, and organ-specific surgical oncology near you work in unison to diagnose and treat all kinds of cancers including:

A brain tumor is a collection of abnormal cells inside the brain. The majority of brain tumors are generally benign and develop slowly, but some are malignant and grow rapidly. The most common symptoms include recently started headaches, vomiting, sleep disturbances, nausea, and exhaustion. Several factors determine the treatment plan and outcome including the kind and size of the brain tumor, the location of cancer, and its growth rate. However, the advancement in technologies and surgical techniques have made significant improvements in patient survival and outcomes

Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that develops in the prostate gland of the male reproductive system. Most prostate cancers grow slowly and occur in the form of malignant tumour that usually begins in the outer part of the prostate. In most men, the cancer grows very slowly. In fact, many men with the disease will never know they are suffering from prostate cancer. Early prostate cancer is confined to the prostate gland itself, and the majority of patients with this type of cancer can live for years without showing any signs and symptoms of cancer.

The exact cause of prostate cancer is not known to the doctors. But, it is believed that genes (family history) may have some interference. The eating habits also contribute to the probability of its occurrence.

Liver cancer, or hepatocellular carcinoma, is one of the deadliest cancers known. It involves growth of cancerous cells called hepatocytes inside the liver. The cancer cells are known to spread from one body part to another. In case of liver cancer, it is not necessary that the cancerous cells are restricted to the liver only. After affecting the area, the cells can move to other body part such as the breast, colon, or even the lungs. Metastatic liver cancer is also a type of liver cancer found in liver but has originated in some other region. The origin organ can be the lungs, colon, bladder, pancreas, kidney, ovary, breast, stomach, or the uterus. These organs are more prone to getting affected and then spreading the infected cells to the liver. Other than the common liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma), there are other types of liver cancers namely, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and hepatoblastoma. They occur when the cancer cells develop in the ducts of the liver.

A malignant tumour that develops in the cells of the lungs is known as lung cancer. It can also spread to other parts of the body. Sometimes, cells in the lung change and stop growing. This is the indication of the beginning of tumours. Tumours are not always cancerous, but changes in lung cells can cause cancer.

There are two types of lung cancers based on cell size, namely small cell lung cancer and non-small lung cancer. Small cell lung cancer, commonly known as oat cell carcinoma, is a subtype of lung cancer. It can be treated with chemotherapy if diagnosed on time. Small cell lung cancer grows and spreads quickly. Non-small lung cancer is more dangerous. It is of three types, the most common of which is adenocarcinoma. It starts in cells of the air sacs that make mucus. This cancer is mostly found in people under the age of 45. Another type of lung cancer is squamous cell and large cell cancer. They are quite tough to treat as compared to other types of cancer.

The pancreas is a large gland in the digestive system which is positioned in the abdominal cavity just behind the stomach. With the function of producing several vital hormones, it is also a digestive organ. Pancreatic cancer arises when pancreatic cells begin to grow out of control with the formation of a mass, called tumor. These cancerous cells can also effect others parts of the body. There are many types of pancreatic cancer. People who don’t smoke and maintain a healthy lifestyle are at a lower risk of developing this cancer. With its increasing cases every year, the chances of survival is low when diagnosed at a later stage. There are many treatment options available that can advance the quality of life of people with pancreatic cancer.

Oesophageal cancer is cancer that happens in oesophageal, the food pipe that runs from your throat to stomach. Oesophageal is a part of the digestive system that helps to transport the food you swallow. Oesophageal cancer is an infectious tumour which starts in the mucosa and with the growth of tumour, it may spread to other parts of the body. This cancer is often found in the bottom section of the oesophageal. There are two types of oesophageal cancer- adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. With more frequent in men than in women, the treatments depend on cancer’s location and stage.

Renal cell cancer (also called kidney cancer) is a disease in which cancer cells are found in the lining of tubules in the kidney. There are 2 kidneys, one on each side of the backbone, above the waist. They filter the blood and take out waste products and make urine.

The incidence of kidney cancer seems to be increasing. One reason for this may be the fact that imaging scans such as Ultrasonography are being used more often. Fortunately, in many such cases, kidney cancer is found at an early stage, when the tumors are small and confined to the kidney, making it easier to treat. A significant number of such patient can be cured with surgery.

Oral cancer or mouth cancer can occur in multiple places in the mouth like lips, gums, tongue, tonsils, salivary glands or on the roof or floor of the mouth. It is considered a type of head and neck cancer and follows a similar treatment approach.

Cervical cancer arises from the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. It is caused due to the abnormal growth of cells on the cervix. Initially, in cervical cancer, no symptoms are seen, but in the later stages symptoms start to appear. It is mainly caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV infection is very common and it may not cause serious symptoms, but in some cases it results in cervical cancer. Regular pap tests can spot changes in the cervical cells before they turn into cancer.

Ovary cancer is a frightening disease that affects thousands of women worldwide. Beyond the physical challenges it presents, ovary cancer can greatly impact a person's emotional well-being. The journey of diagnosis, ovarian cyst-mass treatment, and recovery is often filled with fear, anxiety, and depression. In this blog post, we will explore the emotional toll of ovarian cancer and provide strategies for coping with these difficult emotions.

Well known as gastric cancer, stomach cancer is identified by the expansion of cancerous cells within the lining of the stomach. This cancer can metastasize to other parts of the body, including the liver, bones, lungs and lymph nodes. Different sections of the stomach cause different symptoms and hence different results. It takes many years for the growth of stomach cancer. According to global reports and research, stomach cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer but now the rates have been falling worldwide.

A gallbladder is a small pear-shaped organ located just beneath the liver. It stores a digestive fluid called bile, produced by your liver. There are three main layers of tissue on the walls of gallbladder.

Gallbladder cancer arises when cells in a gallbladder alter and grow out of control, resulting in the formation of a tumour. Gallbladder cancer is quite uncommon. This cancer can be cured perfectly if diagnosed at an early stage. It can also lead to calcification of the gallbladder, a problem known as porcelain gallbladder.

Colon cancer is a type of cancerous growth that affects the area of your large intestine, or colon. The colon is the last section of your digestive tract. This type of cancer usually affects aged individuals, though this is not always true. Colon cancer is also a part of the term, “colorectal cancer” which also includes cancer of the rectum or the last part of the digestive tract.

Thyroid cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the thyroid gland cells, located at the base of the neck. This gland is responsible for producing hormones that regulate metabolism, heart rate, and body temperature.

Although thyroid cancer is not as common as other types of cancer, it is important to understand the signs and causes of this condition. In this blog, we will explore the signs and causes of thyroid cancer and its diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

The bladder is a muscular, hollow organ in your lower abdomen that stores urine. Bladder Cancer develops when cells within the bladder grow abnormally and form tumours. It usually starts with painless blood flow in the urine and later spreads to other organs of the body including bones, lymph nodes, lungs, and liver.

With early detection and diligence followed during treatment, it is possible to cure yourself of Bladder cancer. Here’s what you should know about its causes and symptoms so that you can get yourself treated on time.

The uterus is a hollow, pear-shaped organ present in the female pelvic cavity. The top of the uterus is known as the fundus, the middle is the corpus, and the bottom is the cervix; the inner wall of the uterus is the endometrium, and the outer layer is the myometrium.

Fallopian tube cancer typically affects women between the ages of 50 and 60, although it can occur at any age.

A type of cancer that occurs on the outer surface area of female genitals.

OUR CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

We are equipped with the most advanced technology to diagnose cancer and provide the best treatment modality to the patients.

Varian Edge with Hyper Arc, the SRS Immobilisation System for frameless immobilization with increased patient comfort, and the PerfectPitchTM 6D couch for precise alignment in radiosurgery treatments. Additional options to streamline radiosurgery treatments are provided with VelocityTM and the SRS End-to-End Phantom. The LA delivers precise doses to tumors of the lung, brain, spine, and other areas of the body where radiation is indicated. It precisely calculates patient movement in all six degrees of freedom and monitors respiratory motion. Precise beam shaping using extra-fine 2.5mm MLC leaves, a 2400 MU/minute dose rate, and real-time guidance is available. Other features include SRS-specific optimization tools to optimize not only dose but also treatment delivery in EclipseTM. During a complex non-coplanar treatment, determining safe locations for acquiring images can be challenging. As HyperArc utilizes a single isocenter for all treatments, radiosurgery treatment times are consistently within a 15-minute time frame, independent of the dose prescription, fractionation scheme, or number of targets being treated. HyperArcTM assists in achieving the desired, optimal plan quality, which can be achieved with a single click of the console (post-setup), including intrafraction imaging.

Advanced Brachytherapy unit with BrachyVision™ 3D treatment planning system to simplify complex treatment programs to make brachytherapy treatment planning efficient and consistent. It has the advantage of shorter time to treatment time, gives planning consistency, and provides clear and precise planning information. MRI, PET-CT, and 4DCT simulations are used. An array of dosimeters and QA-QC tools are available for use to give precision in dose delivery and ensure safety.

A positron emission tomography (PET) is a diagnostic test that allows the doctor to check for diseases in your body. The scan uses a special dye that has radioactive tracers. These tracers are injected into a vein in your arm. Your organs and tissues then absorb the tracer. When highlighted under a PET scanner, the tracers help your doctor to see how well your organs and tissues are working. The PET scan can measure blood flow, oxygen use, glucose metabolism (how your body uses sugar), and much more.

VMAT delivers a precisely sculpted 3D dose distribution with a 360-degree rotation of the gantry in a single or multi-arc treatment. It also modulates the radiation for higher conformity while rotating the machine around the patient. It allows treatment delivery speed that is 4 times faster than traditional IMRT. At Medanta, it is used to treat head and neck, prostate, and lung cancers keeping in mind the patient's comfort.

A dedicated system for non-invasive stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic radiotherapy (SRS and SRT), represents cutting-edge technology for treatments of the highest precision. Its X-ray-based localization technology allows our physicians to localize tumors with sub-millimeter accuracy and to position patients automatically and with the highest degree of precision.

Image Guided Radio Therapy is a type of therapy that can shape the radiotherapy beams around the area of cancer. Our doctors at Medanta have used this technology to treat cancers precisely and accurately. This reduces the side effects of the treatment.
